Los Angeles beckons so we are taking to the wide open highways and byways of this great nation. We started off in Hartford, CT at 6:30AM. (Yes, AM) and started moseying our way West on I-84. Unfortunately the weather for the first few hours of driving looked a lot like this:
From CT into Pennsylvania we had some rain, but little did we know that the weather was about to become the least of our problems. We quickly became aware that Pennsylvania has quite the infestation... of state police cars with radar guns. And shortly after entering PA (a state with no welcome sign on the highway, figures) we were ushered in with open arms AND our very own speeding ticket. This began our day-long game of "can you spot the hiding cop car before my crappy radar detector can?"
For you, dear readers, a play-at-home version:
If your answer looked anything like this then well done! You would survive driving from Connecticut to Michigan on Labor Day:
To be fair once we got out of Pennsylvania (which seemed to take forever, who knew it was so huge??) we were treated to the much nicer scenery and speed limit of Ohio. I didn't know that 70mph speed limits existed in the US so that was a very pleasant surprise!
In Ohio we did the following things:
1. Drove across all of it
2. Stopped for gas (after running the car down to damn near empty)
3. Bought some shot glasses
4. Did I mention the driving?
5. REALLY appreciated the speed limit (really)
6. Listened to some rad tunes, including but not limited to:
- Spice Girls
- S Club7
- Taylor Swift
- Macklemore
- and so so many more
We explored the local Worlds Largest WalMart, and then made ourselves a nightcap!
(#cherrykrangaritas it's gonna be a new thing)
It was a very long day and we are totally exhausted, but we did 740 miles and we made it across a bunch of states. Tomorrow we are off to Chicago where we'll have more time to explore the charms of this great nation, including ones that are outside of the car!
Signing off from Coldwater, Michigan!
