Friends,
Welcome to our blog! This blog isn't designed to be anything fancier than an account of our trip!
We left West Hartford, CT this morning at approximately 6:20 p.m. As of 7:00 p.m. our mile meter read 740 miles! I feel exhilarated, excited, and exhausted.
I had a rough night last night, getting only a few hours of sleep. Tired from packing, I drank a Dunkin' Donuts coffee at 6:30 p.m., resulting in tossing and turning, eating chocolate cake at 2:00 a.m.-Golden Girls style- and lifting weights at 2:30 p.m. to exhaust myself before my 5:00 a.m. wake up call.

Our first hundred miles went smoothly. We made excellent time, that is, until I received my first speeding ticket ever in Pennsylvania. As such, I find Pennsylvania quite disagreeable.
There were cops EVERYWHERE today. We must have seen at least 30 cops and a minimum of 20 cars pulled over. It's a tad bit comforting to know the state troopers attempted to ruin the days of many other holiday travelers.
In other news, I loved Ohio! It was so well groomed, the speed limit was 70 mph instead of Pennsylvania's measly 55 mph, and the cops only showed up to help innocent people with their flat tires. Ohio also had tons of power lines! I wonder if they're carrying power from windmills? They were so large...
We stopped at a convenient mart in Ohio, grabbed some soda and bought ourselves Ohio shot glasses for our shot glass collections! It's pretty awesome-Taylor and I started collecting shot glasses in 2007 when we bought our first ones just to get change at Mohegan Sun. Ever since, we make sure to pick one up wherever we go and our friends collect them for us too. I found this one-which reminds me of my sister's boyfriend, Matt! (Huge Ohio State fan.)
We had a little scare with the car. Taylor struggled to put it in gear two or three times, but after jumping off the highway twice we managed to pull it together.
At approximately 4:42 p.m. I got an eighteen wheeler to honk at me-I think it made his day as much as it made mine.
Later in the day, we went to Subway and realized the locals call soda "pop," and it was really endearing for some reason.
When we got back to our hotel after dinner, we put together some cherrykran margaritas- thanks to Eva & Jenn for the nips!
Over all, it's been an awesome first day. Today is one of our longest driving days so it will probably be the least exciting, but Taylor and I have been able to catch up on many of the memories we each had during our undergraduate years at separate colleges. Taylor and I went to middle school and high school together. I attended UConn, (Go Huskies!) and she pursued higher education at NYU. Now, it's my turn to venture out of Connecticut, and I'm really thankful to have Taylor with me as I transition to the next chapter of my life. I'm looking forward to our new memories and experiences.
