I have a love for this sign. I love it. I love it so much and I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's the neon, maybe it's the classic late 50s/early 60s design elements, maybe it's the font and typography, maybe it's because I'm being welcomed not just to plain Vegas but "Fabulous Las Vegas." Whatever it is that makes it so magnificent, I love it. So when we got to Las Vegas the first thing I did was drive us to this very sign so we could take a picture. I even have proof that we were actually there, check it out!
I've never been that person who's always saying "Oh my god, I'm dying to go to Las Vegas!" It's just never been a super high travel priority for me. I was in Vegas once when I was 14 for about 16 hours. Not super fun when you're under 21 (oh man I've started rhyming, I do apologize.) That said, I was excited about the prospect of seeing the city on this trip. And hey now I'm old enough to not just gamble, but also drink, and those two things make up the foundation that Vegas is built upon. I also am such a sucker for neon signage I cannot even begin to tell you. So pulling into Vegas and driving us down the strip was pretty cool. It wasn't a perfectly beautiful day when we got here, it even rained on the way in from Mesquite, but as the day wore on the sun came out and the humidity drifted away.
Now I know my co-pilot has already posted about Vegas and has given you a "What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" kind of report. And that's pretty much what you're gonna get from me too! United front! But I will give you this glimpse into how hard we hit Sin City. Upon my left wrist I wear a little gizmo that tracks how many steps I take every day. Then I plug it into my phone and get to see how active I've been/how many steps I've taken. After our day and night in Las Vegas my little gadget app screen looked like this:
So during our time in Vegas we walked roughly 20 miles. In a single day. Yeah, that's how hard we did Vegas.
Here's a few pictures, enjoy and stay curious about what we actually got up to...
Our hotel, the Luxor
Random Chrysler Building inside the Luxor, still puzzling over that one
The New York, NY with 100% more roller coasters than actual Manhattan
The fake Grand Central in honor of the real Grand Central Terminal's 100th birthday
The Bellagio Fountain
As Mr. Elvis Presley once said, "Bright light city gonna set my soul on fire" and "All you need's a strong heart and nerve of steel, Viva Las Vegas"
Viva Las Vegas, indeed.
