Morgan- Post #4: Pagosa Spring, Colorado

Friends,

I am one emotionally strung out Morg today.

We left Kearney, Nebraska for Colorado & the Rocky Mountains.

Only, I'm not sure who conquered who-the mountain, or Michelle. I should preface my car is named Michelle. She's a beautiful 1999 Acura TL. Her exterior is a classy champagne and her seats are made of a fashionable, tan leather-she's a lady after all!

Okay, and she has 200,000 miles. She's "seasoned." I have never had any issues with Michelle. We do routine maintenance, she responds pleasantly, and our friendship blossoms.

Well, Michelle got "heated" with the mountain today. No really, she over heated a few times and it was terrifying. Thankfully, my brother-in-law suggested she may be acting up due to the amount of crap I packed-which was oddly comforting. We took it slow the rest of the way (we lost an hour and a half or so), but it was worth the time. I was an emotional roller coaster throughout. What could be worse than getting stuck on a mountain in the middle of no where?

We met some interesting locals along the way. One woman asked me if I was a local after I asked if she had post cards... another local told me the convenient store lady forgot to send gas to my pump (yes these were old fashion, prepay only, sketchy gas stations!) because she was "ringing out his sandwich."

But anyway, it was breath taking in the mountains! Take a look at some of the beautiful places I saw :)

We also came across traffic in DENVER! That made me grumpy too :( I was so excited to make the stop because I loved Chicago so much. I enjoyed Denver, but not to the same extent. I did, however, love that today was the opening day for Bronco's football versus the Ravens and the entire city was decked out in orange! They changed signs in the street, restaurants had out their Bronco's menus, and fans covered the streets. Check out some of the city pics!

 Sweet street piano!

We stopped at Sams No. 3, known for its appraisal and review by the food network (see photos above). We ordered Green Pork Chili-just one of the many foods Denver is known for. Taylor had to explain to me that oysters are not fish here, they are bull's testicles. That would have gone over poorly had she refrained from telling me.

Also sitting in the middle of the city was this lovely cow-which reminds me so much of Sheryl, who loves cows! :D

We are staying tonight in Pagosa Spring, CO after driving until 9:00 p.m. It was really dark, and cold out and there are so many cliffs and winding roads I began to feel ridiculous for trying to push the drive for any longer. Safety first, right!?

That's it for now. I'm exhausted. I must have pulled off the road for Michelle like 10 times to check on her. I also fed her oil, second shout out to Grandma for getting me some!

Gotta go plan for Mesa Verde. I'll try to be a little more in depth next time-but no promises!
Goodnight!
